Can you ride a deer

Deer are brown ruminants with cloven hooves found in the forested regions of Hyrule. They are most immediately recognized for the branching antlers that appear on males of the species. Though they will use their antlers in self-defense, Deer are more likely to run away from danger as they are notoriously skittish and timid. Three different Deer appear in Breath of the Wild. The most populous individuals are the Mountain Bucks and Mountain Doe that can be found roaming in wooded areas and grassy plains throughout Hyrule.

They can be hunted using Weapons and drop Raw Meat when killed. Deer Hunting is a popular sport where victors are awarded Rupees. If Link is stealthy enough, he can mount and ride Mountain Deer like he would a wild horse. When mounted, the Deer will try to buck him off until it is soothed, at which point the Mountain Deer will allow Link to ride it. Unlike Horses, Link is unable to spur the Mountain Deer while riding to get a speed boost and they cannot be registered at the stables.

Alongside the other animals, they aggressively confront the two, demanding they go back. A doe stands nearby and asks Nayru with the smaller animals around her to continue singing. When Impa is revealed to be possesed by Veran , [8] the doe leads a charge against the Sheikah to protect Nayru.

However, once the doe and other animals make contact with Impa, Veran leaves her host and possesses Nayru instead. Zelda Wiki.

I see this species as a good candidate for trail riding and also possibly for doing work like plowing and pulling like modern oxen Greater Kudu Tragelaphus strepsiceros Africa's 3rd tallest antelope and the 4th heaviest after the Bongo.

I see this species as a good candidate for pleasure riding and it is faster than the elands. A Lesser Kudu named Garrett at the National Zoo in Washington DC has been trained to do foot procedures like a horse so I'm pretty sure that it's larger cousin could do the same.

Females also get pretty big. Nilgai Bosephalus tragocamelus The Nilgai is about the same size as the Greater Kudu but has shorter horns. Roan Hippotragus equinus They're larger than the Sable antelope and have shorter horns. This one is a juvenile and looks to be about the size of a large pony. Elk Cervus canadensis The elk is the largest American deer after the Moose and they can get to be as large as a standard horse and sometimes larger.

Indian Sambar Rusa unicolor These large Indian Deer grow about the same size as Elk and have straighter antlers than their American relatives. Sarus Crane , 15 Aug Some of these such as sambar are bad tempered. SealPup , 15 Aug All ungulates are rideable But not all ungulates are rideable more than once. TeaLovingDave , 15 Aug No but Darren Naish said so once. There is lots of lit on this subject which herbivores are aggressive, not riding them like horses. Eland I have heard of being ridden but they have a nastry streak sometimes, charging giraffes etc.

Though something like this would be wonderful to illustrate domestication in a domestic animal collection, I'm unsure how safe it would be. Roan antelope seem pretty gentle all round from what I've seen - none of the horror stories and tales of trouble come with waterbucks, eland, zebra and the like.

But I doubt anyone here will have ridden one! FBBird , 15 Aug Even wild members of the horse family zebras and takis cannot be ridden. As for antelope and wild cattle bovids I think it is pointless. Domestic horses are amazing for this purpose and nothing else will come close.

Arizona Docent , 15 Aug In Guns, Germs and Steel, the author makes the case that essentially all domestication, particularly of ungulates, has already happened. Some species are more predisposed to it and others probably can't be. The fact that humans originated in Africa, and yet the donkey is the only domesticated ungulate to come from there is evidence that the others are simply nowhere near as suitable. FunkyGibbon , 15 Aug There is a photo from ostensibly of president Teddy Roosevelt riding a swimming moose.

While many accept it as real due to its age, this is actually an early example of photo-manipulation. In Scottish tales fairy folk were sometimes described as riding deer, facing towards the hindquarters. Riding a deer is an aesthetically impressive sight, and quite a feet when dealing with semi-domesticated animals.

However with the exception of the reindeer herding societies that live in close association with their animals, it is a very impractical choice of mount. I thoroughly enjoyed this hub. I am a sucker for anything to do with nature etc.

What a weird and whimsical article. I've seen old photos of moose hauling lumber but not being ridden like a horse. I mean even zebras make for poor riding buddies as they are so skittish despite being very horse-like in appearance. Thanks for the smile. Personal Finance. Welcome to HubPages. Reindeer Most deer are too delicate to ride. Related Articles.
